Principal's Message

Dear Hillsboro Families,

As we approach the final four weeks of the school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible work happening at Hillsboro and share a few important updates.

Next week marks the beginning of the Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) for our 3rd through 5th grade students. While I don’t place too much emphasis on a single standardized test given once each spring, I do believe it serves as a valuable indicator or snapshot of the learning journey we’ve been on all year.

At Hillsboro, we have embraced a mindset of local accountability. That means we don’t wait for one test a year to tell us how our students are doing. Instead, we hold ourselves accountable every single day. Our staff consistently uses multiple data points to inform instruction and support every child’s individual growth:

  • iReady Reading and Math Assessments are given three times a year to help us monitor both student growth and grade-level proficiency.

  • Standards Mastery Pre-Assessments guide instruction before a new unit begins, allowing our teachers to personalize learning from day one.

  • Standards Mastery Post-Assessments and Next-Generation Readiness Assessments (NxGRAs) give students multiple ways to show what they know — including real-world application and problem-solving opportunities.

This approach allows us to keep a constant pulse on student growth and learning—not just at the end of the year, but throughout the entire school year.

We encourage all families to stay engaged by visiting our Local Accountability Portal on this website. Here, you can access real-time data on your child’s learning progress and see firsthand the work we’re doing at Hillsboro to create a vibrant, student-centered, and high-performing learning environment.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we finish the year strong!

With gratitude,

Mark Leet
